The perfect throat hit, is it real or is it just an ideal? If you have the right vaping products and you know what you’re doing, the perfect throat hit isn’t as farfetched as you might think it is.

How To Get That Perfect Throat Hit From Your Vape

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Buy a vape with adjustable airflow and variable voltage/wattage.
  2. Select a vape juice based on the throat hit that you prefer.
  3. Adjust your vape’s settings to match your preference for throat hit strength.
  4. Enjoy the perfect throat hit.

That might seem simple enough but there’s more you need to know. Let’s start with your vape and the features that it needs to have to pull this off.

You Need A Full-Featured Vape

So you don’t actually need a vape that has every conceivable feature. What you do need, though, is a vape that has an airflow adjustment and controls that let you adjust either the voltage or wattage.

Why Airflow Matters

The amount of air that your vape allows into it is going to change the intensity of the flavour, the density of the vapor, and the temperature of the vapor. This is all very important if you’re trying to achieve that ideal throat hit with your vape. For a smoother throat hit, you’re going to need to let plenty of air into your vape, which will help cool it down and reduce its density. Obviously, the reverse is also true so if you want a stronger hit then you’re going to want to reduce the amount of air that passes through the vape when you hit it. This will make the vapor denser and your throat hit feel more intense (stronger).

Why Voltage/Wattage Are Important

First of all, voltage and wattage are not the same, however, they both impact the throat hit in a similar way. If you crank them up, you’re going to get a stronger throat hit when you take a rip. If you push them down, you’re going to get a smoother hit.

You Need The Right Vape Juice

Nicotine salts are smoother so if you want a really smooth throat hit that feels gentle on your throat then you should look for a vape juice that contains nic salts. The lower the strength, the smoother the hit. If you want a really strong hit, you can go with a vape juice that uses freebase nicotine, which is basically the original nicotine used in vape juices. For a really strong hit, you should also consider using an iced vape juice or anything that contains menthol because the menthol adds a nice kick to the vapor.

Propylene glycol, which is commonly referred to by the acronym PG, is also going to make for a stronger hit. So if you want a strong hit, go with a vape juice high in PG. For the most part, you’ll find that the juices on the market use both PG and vegetable glycerin (VG) so if you want a high PG vape juice then look for something with a 70:30 ratio of PG to VG.

Again, the reverse is also true. If you want a smooth rip, go with a high VG vape juice and avoid anything with menthol in it.

Now that we have all of that out of the way, let’s talk specifics.

Tips For Smooth Hits

When you want your vapor to caress your throat every so gently when you inhale it then you should try to follow as many of these tips as you can:

  • Use high VG vape juice. Anything with over 70% is good.
  • Opt for a lower nicotine strength. Nicotine, too much anyways, can make the vapor super harsh so you will want to stick with lower strengths if you want your vapor to feel gentle when you inhale it.
  • Open up the airflow and let plenty of air into your vape. This will help cool down the vapor and disperse it a bit, making it a lot easier to puff on.
  • Push the vaping power down. If you have voltage or wattage controls, use them to decrease the amount of power that you’re vaping with. This can go a long way towards making your hits nice and smooth.
  • Get a cotton wick. They tend to be the most gentle and there’s a good chance that you’re using one already if you already have a vape.

Tips For Strong Hits

If you used to smoke or you’re still trying to transition from smoke to vape, you might feel like the vapor from an e-cigarette is way too weak and that it’s missing something. If this sounds like you, you’re far from the only one who has stumbled into this issue. What’s missing might be that sensation when the vapor hits the back of your throat. That’s the throat hit and if you feel like you need more of it then you can follow these tips:

  • Use a vape juice that has menthol in it. Anything “iced” is very likely to be made with menthol so if you see “iced” or “ice” in the name then it’s probably a vape juice that has menthol in it. The menthol adds some bite to the vapor that will go a really long way towards strengthening the throat hit. But if you don’t like menthol then ignore this and use the other tips below to strengthen your vapor.
  • High VG vape juice is ideal because the PG makes the vapor a bit more harsh, which you’re definitely going to notice when you take a rip of it for the first time.
  • Tighten up that airflow collar on your vape by twisting it until it’s just about shut. Then loosen it until the vapor is how you like it. This is going to make the vapor a lot more warm and dense, which will increase the sensation of it hitting the back of your throat.
  • Go with a hemp wick. You probably have a cotton one in your vape already but depending on what vape you’re using you might actually be able to replace it with a hemp one. This will make the vapor a bit harsher, which is what you want if you’re trying to make the throat hit more noticeable.
  • Crank that vaping power up by increasing the voltage/wattage. Not all vapes can do this so make sure you’re using one that can because the added control will let you fine-tune your vapor.
  • Go with a freebase nicotine vape juice and choose a higher strength to add some more kick to your vapor.
