Need A Juul Alternative? Meet The Best Refillable Pod Vape

Vape Reviews

A lot of people use Juuls in the United States and elsewhere, but with flavored Juul vape pods no longer on the US market, many Juulers are now on the hunt for a Juul alternative. This is where we come in. Having tested a number of pod vapes, including Juul, we’ve narrowed the selection down to two pod vapes that both boast refillable vape pods, which is something that Juul has never offered.

The Best Refillable Pod Vapes

Option 1: Uwell Caliburn Vape Pod System

The Caliburn pod vape is simple yet powerful. This 11W vape pen is designed to work with its own brand vape pods. Unlike Juul pods and others like them, Uwell’s Caliburn vape pods are 100% refillable. To fill and refill the vape pods, simply remove the mouthpiece from the pod and use the tip of the bottle to insert e-juice into the pod. Replace the mouthpiece when you’re done, wait 5 to 10 minutes for the vape juice to soak in, and then vape.

To vape with the Caliburn, you can just hit it like you would a standard cig-a-like by drawing on the mouthpiece or you can press and hold the button. Both methods work well. There’s sometimes a noticeable lag when using the draw-sensing technology of some vape pens, but not with the Caliburn. With the Burn, there’s virtually no lag whatsoever when you use it. Draw on the mouthpiece and out comes vapor. Easy. Effortless, really. This is one of the easiest vapes to use. Between the refilling process, usage, and maintenance, it’s one of the most hassle-free pod vape systems there is. Combine all of this with its slim size, powerful 520mAh battery, and 2ml pods and you have the makings of one of the best refillable pod vape systems.

If you’ve been Juuling, you’re going to love the Caliburn vape. It’ll save you a ton of money with its refillable vape pods and it’s more powerful than the Juul device. The vapor is more plentiful, the battery lasts longer between charges, and it hits like a champ. You might even find that it hits a little too hard, which is why we’re proposing a second option, which is a bit softer but just as good.

Option 2: Vaporesso Zero Pod Vape System

Shorter in size than the Caliburn, but just as nice is the Zero vape by Vaporesso. While it’s clearly the more compact option, it doesn’t pack quite as much of a punch on its lower voltage setting as the Caliburn, which makes for a more pleasant vaping experience for the softer vapers out there. Like Uwell’s Caliburn, the Zero boasts refillable pods with a 2ml capacity. Compare this to Juul’s 0.7ml capacity and you can see why a lot of vapers are opting for refillable pod systems like this one. To refill Zero vape pods, simply detach the pod from the vape battery by gently sliding it out and then press the e-liquid bottle tip firmly against the filling hole located on the bottom of the pod. The hole where the e-liquid is inserted acts as a valve that opens when the e-liquid bottle’s tip is pressed firmly into it. You’ll see it move when you do it right. Once you understand how it’s done, it’s easy enough to do, but it’s not quite as easy as refilling a Caliburn pod.

The Vaporesso Zero offers three voltage settings. Clicking the power button three times will cycle through them. The highest setting makes it rip quite nicely, but the lowest setting is easy-going, making it great for vapers who just want some nice smooth vapor.

Refill pods are relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to the cost of Juul pods. All in all, it’s a great system and easily worth what it costs, which is hardly anything. If you’re looking for a cheap pod vape that’s highly compact and works well, the Zero is one of the best options you’ll find.

A Third Option: The Non-Refillable Viggo Vape

There is one more option on the list today, and it’s one that’s not refillable. It’s the Viggo pod vape from Vaper Empire and it’s brand spanking new. Vaper Empire is already well known in Australia and New Zealand for it’s premium vape juice and easy to use e-cigs, but now it has something truly impressive under its belt: the Viggo. Unlike some pod vapes that use disposable vape pods, Viggo’s pods are filled with tasty e-juice that’s so good you might not care to replace it with something else. The vape battery is 400mAh, micro USB rechargeable, and encased in a lovely soft-touch black metal that not only looks great but feels really nice to hold. At 1.8ml, the pods contain a lot more e-juice than Juul’s – more than double. After extensive testing, we haven’t had a single pod leak. If that’s not impressive to you, it should be because a lot of vape pods that we’ve tested over the years have leaked and leaking vape pods is nothing that you should be content with. Pods, like all vape devices, should not leak. If they do, there’s an issue that needs to be resolved. In some cases, the issue is with the pod itself, either defective or poorly designed. With Viggo vape pods, this issue simply does not exist, which is more than we can say for Juul pods.

Viggo’s pods come in two different e-liquid nicotine strengths right now: 0% and 3%. While there are only two nicotine strengths to choose from at the moment, there are a number of different flavors:

  • Orange Crush
  • Whole Leaf Tobacco
  • Creamy Custard
  • Tobacco
  • Apple
  • Menthol

Unlike Vaper Empire’s bottled e-liquids, the vape juice pods that contain nicotine use nicotine salts. These days, a lot of vapers prefer nic salts in their e-liquids for varying reasons. Nicotine salt, which is found naturally occurring in tobacco leaves, vaporizes at higher temperatures than the standard freebase nicotine traditionally used in nicotine e-liquids. However, current formulations allow for nicotine salt eLiquid to vaporize at much lower temperatures, provide smoother hits, and be easily absorbed. In other words, the nicotine salt vape juice that you’ll find in vape pods like Viggo’s is superior to the freebase e-juice you’ll find elsewhere. This is why many vapers prefer it. And for reference, all of the vapes listed on this page (Caliburn, Zero, and Viggo) are compatible with nicotine salt e-liquid.

Like the Vaporesso Zero, the Viggo offers three different voltage settings. Three clicks of the button cycles through them and the color of the light on the device tells you which voltage setting you’re using. But it’s not the variable voltage or the leak-free pods that has us excited about this vape, it’s how freaking well it works. It auto-activates instantly and produces some of the best vapor we’ve ever had from a pod vape. The flavors of their e-liquids are impeccable and the vape itself is one of the most comfortable to not only hold but use. Way better than the Juul in every conceivable way. Its battery stays charged longer, its e-juice tastes better, its pods contain more juice, and it never leaks.

You can buy the Viggo from the Vaper Empire store.
